Somebody pointed out to me today that religion, and I think this applies for every religion, is simply not 'normal' to any secular person.
And it's pretty true isn't it.
In other news, I want a carebear t-shirt. |

Is it sad that this (below) is one of the most romantic passages/endings I feel I've ever read? In the context of the story of course.
Thief of Time by Terry Pratchett
A faint, cardboardy sound made her open them. The lids were gently lifting on the boxes of stars. They spilled out and whirled up into the shadows of the cupboard, brilliant against the darkness, a galaxy in miniature, gently spinning. Susan watched them for a while, and then said, 'All right, you have my full attention, whoever you are.' At least, that was what she meant to say. The peculiar stickiness of the nougat caused it to come out as: 'Allite, you ot my fo' a'nen'on, oover ooah.' Damn! The stars spiralled around her head, and the cupboard's interior darkened into interstellar black. 'If iss is oo, Def o' Raffs-' she began. 'It's me,' said Lobsang. Tick Even with nougat, you can have a perfect moment.

Thou should not keep angsty posts written at wee hours in the morning when thy brain is not functioning.
Anyway, doing Proof right now is probably one of the best things about HP for me.
People speaking up, contributing, creating our own education. Everybody has something intelligent to say (haha).
I hope that by the end of it it'll be an amalgamation of contributions from every single person.
That to me is what you have a class for. |

Seems like the best thing that comes out of BGR education is class bonding.
Hurhur, hilarious soundbites:
What turns you off? Athena: Fat, smelly, ugly... (I forgot what else but I have it on video!) Kee En (on behalf of jiajun): girls who have more muscles than him! Xina: People who cut their toenails on the bus
What qualities do you look for in a partner? Jiajun: She must be smart. Athena about Jamie: Compatible parts
-On how hormones or whatever similar to your opposite sex parent attracts you- Noelle: That's how lizard traps work!
What music best describes what you're feeling right now? Everybody is thinking: LET ME OUT OF HERE NOW
What would the next session have been about? Unwanted Pregnancies. |

About AWARE:
First of all, I think the entire issue has been blown up unnecessarily by the Straits Times (One more reason for me to despise you ST!).
Secondly, any discussion about and opinions with regard to this event in particular should steer clear of speculation of what we DO NOT know or what is clearly 'assumed' by our main source of information, the newspapers.
Right then, AWARE as a female organization, has, in its interests a duty to remain secular as an NGO and as a civil organization. By accepting diverse people and not discriminating against the beneficiaries of the organization. Also, the purposes and aims of the organization should be aimed to be applicable to majority if not all the female population. They should promote awareness for issues and aid females in Singapore who are at a disadvantage or under privileged. It should not be an organization that openly pursues an interest or shows support towards any purpose of a religious nature. Similarly, neither should it pursue an interest in an issue that is so sensitively and intricately linked to the religious community in Singapore.
By publicly placing the organization in a clear position of support for the gay community, AWARE was not doing itself any favours with regards to maintaining a secular environment and purpose for the organization. (Go read the papers)
Some famous guy once pointed out that we laugh at how inaccurate newspapers can be in our area of expertise or where we know better, but when reading about any other topic we can take it as the gospel truth. The point I am trying to make with this is that please! We know better than to believe everything we read. And while public personalities such as Thio Li-Ann or her mother may not have made a good impression on you (for whatever reason), the newspaper making links such as "planned" coup with a "common link", "feminist mentor" may be stretching it too far.
I empathize with the new exco's perception in the need for a relook into the direction that the organization was heading towards, but personally I do not agree with the manner in which this change was carried out and the drastic degree of change in such a short period of time.
And while some of my peers feel the need to be heard or to support the AWARE cause (whichever side you are on), I do not believe that we have a say in this organization's structure, proceedings or direction. Simply because we are not members of this organization. To try and influence the internal workings of this organization is simply not within our right, neither is it within the rights of the general public or the media. We can only comment about the event as an observer instead of an activist.
Finally, I am frankly disappointed in the chain of events that have happened since the 'change' or first elections of the exco. I am disappointed in the manner that this was handled, I am disappointed that this is happening in Singapore. Everything from DBS publicly rebuking a senior member of their management, to the old guards using the press to inflame sensitive issues, to the new exco's inability to take decisive action. It would take too long to analyze the events but simply, that the press is immature enough to add fuel to the fire instead of responsible reporting, that Singaporeans out there are immature enough to send death threats, that both the old guards and new exco, by publicly airing their dirty laundry are making it difficult for themselves to reconcile in the future.
Mainly I think I just hate sensationalized news and people falling into the trap of feeling strongly for it.

Everytime I look up at the sky, be it blue, black or grey it takes my breath away. |

And there's no greater love than this!
This was shown in church today, I think it's a great analogy to Jesus dying for our sins.
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah It's a Good Friday
410 day was great, it's heart-warming and fun, and one of the many things I have to be thankful for. When we're old ladies I still want to see you guys, make toothy-smiles and take pictures.

I love slumdog. It could possibly rival my love for Titanic.
You know, I love it so much, I'm going to do one of my reviews of it, and leave it uncut.
The video above is the scene I love the most. I teared a tiny little bit. Because it takes the past 120 minutes of emotions and attention you have invested in the characters, brings you through all those feelings again before giving you a happy ending. It's like the montage at your graduation, your report card after 20 years of school, the elegy at the funeral.
My FAVOURITE scene in terms of fun to watch and the one I am most fond of is where the little boy jumps into the cesspit to get Amitabh Bachan's autograph. I was so sad that wasn't real faeces. Hehe. Still, I think that was the penultimate expression of hope carried through the media. Plus, the boy is impossibly cute!
This film shows that you can be dark and depressing without being graphic, that you can be depressing, dark, realistic, without losing innocence, hope and beauty, that great storytelling can make fiction believable.
A lot of people say that this film is "different" and that's why they like it. I beg to differ. I wouldn't know if Danny Boyle has given us a 'true' representation of slumlife, in fact, I do not think he should have named this movie slumdog millionaire. This film, like Shakespeare, is successful because it transcends the culture it is set in, with everlasting universal themes, proves that once again good storytelling never fails. Because, other than the Indian actors, infectious bollywood music, and other quirks of Indian culture that tickle us, the characters are ones we can relate to and feel compassion for.
The story on its own is unbelievable. Sure, there are no obvious loose ends, no gaping plotholes, but the truth is... This is hollywood. This is fiction. It's what we want to believe in. But as with Titanic, it is a masterpiece because it melds what is ugly reality with our lofty ideals.
Ok, so this isn't exactly a review but finally: omigosh I totally wasn't into the adult Jamal character because I kept thinking of Skins and how he's British and kept trying to listen for his British accent (of which there is a lot!). Also, why is Jamal so in love with Latika?! He meets her a grand total of FOUR times in his life in this film. Also, adult Salim TOTALLY looks like one of my math tutors. Thought that the presenter of WWTBAM was interesting and deserves a dark and mysterious spin-off of his own.
Exhales.

Finally watched slumdog and it's awesome!
Also, watching films with your friends is soo much more fun.
Jamal to Latika: "I will wait for you at 5pm every day" (or something)
Li Ann: Siao!
And not being ashamed when everybody else in the same row is covering their eyes when the little boy got blinded.
Well, with random musings, I wonder what Hongkong dramas will do when that generation where polygamy still exists dies out. No more second/third/fourth wives to bully and turn all evil mastermind on them, no half-siblings popping out of a dozen different places to claim the family inheritance.
Aaah... I should read up on the case for polygamy. Maybe I should watch Big Love. haha. |

Urgh, firefox screwing up has just spoilt my mood.
Anyway, had dinner at lingzhi with my family today!
And on the way back I dragged my family to borders where we met some church people.
Then when passing by Goodwood Park Hotel, there was a loud noise, several cars parked at the entrance and a large group of people screaming, throw in the bright lights and you'd realise they were filming something!
Turns out it's a music video for Electrico starring Mindee Ong, who was in a red gown.
Kinda cool! V. relaxing evening with nice food.
I must say, mugging for math (my only paper left hyukhyuk) this week has been fun! Going for tuition was fun, studying in school/smu was fun too. Oh, and if you haven't guessed, vectors is my favourite topic!

I've laughed the HARDEST in a long time reading this website
http://mymomisafob.com/
Reminds me of when my cousins and I were discussing our parents propensity for chainletter emails with information beneficial to your health like (DON'TDRINKCOLDWATER and DON'T EATMEAT YOUGETBLOODPOISONING) and other generation gap jokes.
Typical asian parents. hilarious, but also taken with lots of <33
I told my mother about the site and some of the funnier quotes. She was rather amused but was like "that's so disrespectful!" at the idea of laughing at your parents.
Anyway, WHEN CAN I SLEEP TONIGHT. am done studying csc. didn't even finish half of what I'm supposed to know. Hope that half doesn't come out. shouldibotherstudyingASAD, butidon'tneedtoimpressB, ican'trememberNI, howtoanswerquestions HOW?! |

Mr Burge is sooo awesome! <33 Mr Burge!
I should get to know the juniors more. I really have no idea who they are right now.
Maybe then I won't detest their presence as marginal human beings in an overcrowded school. So much.
I don't detest them per se, just hate that the school is overcrowded.
Staying back in school, I receive tons of "what're you still doing here?!"
And why should that be? School should be the most conducive environment for learning, not a place everybody wants to run away from.
There's no security for your belongings, no lockers, not even a place to sit.
Hate HC in that way, when you're one of the masses and no one in their grand plans for fountains, statues and white elephants has accounted for you. |
